About GSFWA INDIA

Goat & Sheep Farmers Welfare Association was founded in 2014. It is the first non-profit organization representing members from most of the 29 states of India. The Association is comprised of professionals & planners, scientists, entrepreneurs, commercial goat or sheep breeders & farmers, etc. associated with small bovine sector across India.In the absence of a common platform,the sector has remained ignored in the past.With an intention to provide technical support to producer farmers and to provide boost to the sector,some existing commercial farmers, professionals and technocrats came forward to form a national level body to address these issues. The aims and objectives of the Association are to promote and conserve the genetic purity of indigenous breeds of goats & sheep through intensive selection and breeding; create and manage registers of purebred Goats & Sheep of Indian origin; support establishment and management of goat and sheep research farms, goat and sheep breeding farms and demonstration units at strategic locations in India;facilitate the elimination of unscrupulous brokers and middlemen from marketing chain and to provide a free platform to farmers to sell Goat & Sheep at National and International mandis with maximum profits;organize goat and sheep fairs, exhibitions, seminars, goat and sheep farmers training programs; compile and publish Journals/Periodicals/ Newsletters /books and leaflets for the promotion of the objectives of the Association and to facilitates liasioning, affiliation and cooperation with the Central and State Governments and goat and sheep Research Institutes having similar objectives in India.

To empower and uplift goat and sheep farming communities across rural and semi-urban India by advocating for policy reforms, providing support services, and fostering sustainable growth opportunities, thereby enhancing food security and livelihoods.

Goals and Objectives

Policy Advocacy and Recognition

We lobby for the inclusion of goat and sheep farming as a priority agriculture allied sector in government policies and programs. It advocates for the recognition of the significant role played by goat and sheep farming in ensuring food security and rural livelihoods.

Capacity Building and Skill Development

We organize training workshops, seminars, and skill development programs for farmers, traders, and other stakeholders to enhance their knowledge and expertise in goat and sheep farming practices. We also facilitate access to modern farming techniques, technologies, and best practices to improve productivity and efficiency.

Access to Finance and Resources

We collaborate with research institutions, financial institutions and government agencies to create specialized funding mechanisms and schemes tailored to the needs of goat and sheep farmers. We also assist in accessing grants, subsidies, and other financial resources to support the establishment and expansion of goat and sheep farming enterprises.

Research and Innovation

We foster partnerships with research institutions and academia to conduct studies and research aimed at addressing the challenges faced by the goat and sheep farming sector. Promote innovation and the adoption of sustainable and eco-friendly practices to enhance productivity, minimize environmental impact, and ensure the welfare of animals.

Awareness and Advocacy

We raise awareness about the importance of goat and sheep farming in achieving food security, poverty alleviation, and sustainable rural development. We advocate for the rights and welfare of goat and sheep farmers, including access to fair markets, veterinary services, and social protection measures.

By pursuing these goals and objectives, the Goat & Sheep Farmers Welfare Association aims to drive positive change and transformation in the goat and sheep farming sector, ultimately contributing to the holistic development of rural communities and the nation as a whole.
